The Friends of John Slade Ely House of Contemporary Art—stewards of John Slade Ely House’s revival—invite you to join us for art, merriment, and thanks in the Elizabethan mansion Grace Ely left to New Haven’s arts community over 55 years ago.

The party directly follows the opening reception of the New Haven Paint & Clay Club Annual Members Juried Exhibition from 1–3 pm.

Opening : New Haven Paint & Clay Club Annual Members Exhibition

  • Ely Center of Contemporary Art (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Public Reception:  Sunday, December 3, 1 – 3 pm

In 1961, the The New Haven Paint & Clay Club found a home for its exhibitions at The John Slade Ely House, where it now sponsors its exhibitions yearly.

In 1900, a group of Connecticut artists met and formed the NHPCC, now one of New England’s oldest, and still active, arts organizations. New Haven was chosen primarily because of the Yale School of the Fine Arts, where many of the artists had studied. Many of the important American artists of the 1900s were represented in the Club’s early exhibits.
